My Platform

The Manatee County School District offers students many great opportunities – college level courses, vo-tech classes, arts, sports and more.

But this is not enough.

Our students deserve better!
Our School Board must do its job!
We have a right to know what is going on!
We need Leadership!

I worked in public education for forty years as a teacher, administrator, and superintendent. For the last six years I served on the Manatee County School District’s Audit Committee. So, why am I running for School Board?

1. Our students deserve better! It isn’t enough until:

Every child in Manatee County attends a safe school that offers them excellent programs.
There is an intense focus on reading, so all students are reading on grade level.
Students going to college earn college credit at every high school.
Every student in middle school can participate in music.
Students earn credentials in vo-tech programs so they can get good paying jobs when they graduate high school. And we partner with local businesses and industries so that the jobs are here in Manatee County.
Every student has the skills, knowledge and confidence to graduate high school prepared for the jobs of the 21stcentury.
Our teachers and staff have the resources and support they need to do their jobs well.

2. Our School Board must do its job! As a Board member this is what I will do:

Hire an experienced, successful, innovative superintendent who will make sure our students have the best education possible.
Set expectations for the Superintendent, reward her for doing a great job, hold her accountable for her actions, and when something goes wrong, expect her to take responsibility and fix it.
Follow the money! Account for every dollar, eliminate waste, and develop a budget based on our students’ needs.

3. We have a right to know what is going on! I will insist the Administration:

Tells the community what is happening – clearly, completely, and timely.
Celebrates the great achievements of our students and staff.
Tells us what happened when something goes wrong and how it will be fixed.

4. We need Leadership! This is what I will do:

Listen to everyone and understand all sides of an issue.
Ask the tough questions and get answers.
Make every decision based on the facts and in the best interests of children.
Hit the ground running on day one and get things done.
